Gallformers ID Notes

Hairy, tan-red, detachable galls with a short flared base and a near-globular upper section with a ragged circular opening at the apex, on the lower lamina of Quercus garryana. Observed in California in October.

This gall bears some resemblance to some observations (eg) of galls identified as Phylloteras cupella with an unusually wide base. These may be closely related or possibly conspecific host variants.
