Relationship: Pale-greenish or greenish-yellow lower surface, leaf erineum often with a reddish tint, later becoming red, then brown and dry.

In addition to bladder galls, Hodgkiss (1913) described four species of eriophyids that are associated with erineum on leaves of red maple in New York. They are Eriophyes major Hodgkiss, E. minutissimus (Hodgkiss), E ornatus Hodgkiss [now a synonym of E major], and E quinquilobus (Hodgkiss).
