In New York, Hodgkiss (1930) reported an uncommon greenish erineum on the underside of sugar maple leaves caused by Eriophyes modestus. The erineum later changes to brownish or blackish.

Amrine Catalog

Host association with Acer floridanum is a supposition made based on its close relationship to Acer saccharum and the appearance of a similar gall on A floridanum in [this iNaturalist observation](https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/46335294). Further investigation may find this is a distinct mite species.
