Procecidochares minuta is a complex that probably includes six or more species. For example, "Comparative Biology of Gall-Formers in the Genus Procecidochares (Diptera: Tephritidae) on Rabbitbrush in Idaho" points to three different species in this complex that use different plants and have different gall morphologies, but with adult flies all looking quite similar. According to Foote et al's Handbook of the Fruit Flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) of America North of Mexico (1994), the host plants for this complex include "Ambrosia, Aster, Chrysothamnus, Corethrogyne, Solidago and Viguiera."
