A spruce seed midge, Mayetiola carpophaga (Tripp)

Damage: Each larva feeds in and destroys a single seed.

Host: White and possibly other spruces.

This new genus includes for now only Strobilotia carpophaga (Tripp 1955), new combination, whose larva lives in seeds of Picea glauca (Moench) Voss. (Pinaceae).
