Gallformers ID Notes

Small patches of peeled epidermis covering the upper side of Reynoutria japonica leaves in the spring. The patches are yellower than the rest of the leaf and are often marked by white rolls of peeled epidermis. They typically cover the entire leaf incompletely but more or less uniformly. The lower side of the leaf is unaffected.

Observed in April in Washington, in May in New York (2), New Jersey (2), Vermont, and Michigan, and in June in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
