These flat, circular galls are found on the leaf lamina of various Smilax species, including S bona-nox and rotundifolia. Gall midges of the genus Meunieriella have been reared from them. Outside of the southern tip of Florida, where black mangroves occur, these seem to be the only members of the genus found in North America, and most observations in the genus on iNaturalist belong here. It is also listed on Bugguide.
